Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to the Friends of the Scottsdale Public Library website. Below are answers to some questions we commonly receive.
Donations
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes, the Friends of the Scottsdale Public Library is a 501(c)(3) organization and your gift is tax-deductible to the full extent permitted by law.
Can I make a donation on behalf of a loved one?
Absolutely. When you make your donation, please choose the “Dedicate This Gift” option if you are donating on behalf of a loved one.
Are there ways to support the Friends other than donations?
Yes, we have set up several affiliate partnerships where the Friends will benefit when you shop.
Can I sponsor a room/piece of furniture in the Library in memory of a loved one?
Any naming rights of Library property must be approved by Scottsdale City Council. We recommend that you contact the Library directly with this request.
Book Donations/Sales
Do you accept donated books?
Unlike other library friends groups, the Friends of the Scottsdale Public Library does not oversee book sales for the Library. You’ll want to contact the Library directly to see if your materials can be accepted.
Can I purchase books through the Friends?
All four Scottsdale Public Library branches have a Library Shop where you can purchase books, movies, music, and other materials.
Events
Are events put on by the Friends open to the public?
The Friends sponsor several free events throughout the year that are open to everyone, including community members without Library cards. We also host several events that are exclusive to Friends.
Does the Library offer events in addition to those sponsored by the Friends?
Absolutely. There is a free event at a branch of Scottsdale Public Library nearly every day of the year. Visit the Library event calendar to learn more.
Library Questions
Can you help me with questions about my Library card/materials/hours of operation?
Scottsdale Public Library has a great resource for customer service called “Ask a Librarian.” You can also call 480-312-READ (7323) for assistance. Unfortunately, the Friends are unable to help with questions about your account.
Do you offer court-ordered or program-mandated community service opportunities?
While we are a volunteer-run organization, in order to receive the number of hours you are likely looking for, you may want to volunteer with the Library directly.
