The Friends of the Scottsdale Public Library
is a nonprofit, all-volunteer community organization whose members support Scottsdale's public library system through a variety of activities. Money raised by the Friends funds a variety of public programs at the Scottsdale libraries, focusing on youth. Friends-funded programs are much needed, but not covered in current, or future, City of Scottsdale library budgets.

Three popular Friends-funded programs that benefit Scottsdale youth are:

The Summer Reading Program - Encourages youngsters and teens to read during school vacations, and to use their library as a fun center full of interesting resources.

    • Typically, over 5,500 children and 1,000 teens enthusiastically participate each year.

Book Buddies - Brings authors and illustrators into Scottsdale schools, motivating students to write, draw and read.

    • Friends purchase books by visiting authors/artists to give to each student.

Knowasis: Thunderbird Charities Teen Learning Center at the Scottsdale Civic Center Library opened in 2006. Teens gather to learn, collaborate and access all the school, career and life resources the library has to offer.
