Scottsdale Heritage Connection Unveiled With Ribbon Cutting

After over two years of fundraising, the Scottsdale Heritage Connection held its ribbon cutting ceremony with a private breakfast for donors on Tuesday, June 25 at Civic Center Library.

Mayor Jim Lane was present to cut the ribbon, as were valued members of the Friends of the Scottsdale Public Library and the SHC fundraising committee. Attendees were treated to a tour of the space and breakfast items catered by Creations in Cuisine Catering.

The space is in the former home of Scottsdale Public Art next to the Knowasis Teen Center. It will be open to the public later this summer, as shelving still needs to be installed to house the historical documents. Once opened, the SHC will showcase over 10,000 documents celebrating the history of Scottsdale.

Stay tuned for more details about free historical programming in the space beginning this fall. It’s also not too late to donate if you want to help us hit our goal of $500,000. The next stage of the project will be installing kiosks at the other Scottsdale Library branches to showcase the collection.

Scottsdale Heritage Connection Campaign Kicks Off May 10

The Friends of the Scottsdale Public Library is excited to be supporting a $1 million capital campaign for the Scottsdale Heritage Connection, which officially launches on May 10.

The new permanent exhibition, which is scheduled to open in spring 2019, will celebrate the history of Scottsdale through photographs and images, phone books, year books and other media, and interviews with Scottsdale residents.

The space will encompass 2,300 square feet in the Civic Center Library as well as kiosks in each of the other Scottsdale Library branches.

The Friends will be the official 501(c)(3) partner of this campaign, ensuring that all donations are tax deductible. The Friends also made the first donation to the campaign of $5,000. The campaign is being headed by Carol Damaso, former Director of the Scottsdale Public Library.

“Scottsdale’s ‘heritage’ will move front and center at the Library to provide visitors the best place for local research, audio/video presentations from citizens and historical perspective for the City’s present and future,” said Damaso. Added current Library Director Kathleen Wade, “It will become another way for visitors to ‘experience Scottsdale.'”

The Friends’ previous capital campaigns include raising $500,000 in funding for Knowasis: The Thunderbirds Charities Teen Learning Center, allowing teenagers an activity space in the Civic Center Library branch.
